To the editor:

As a recipient of a 1999 YELL Foundation grant, I want to thank the foundation for funding this grant. A series entitled "Outstanding African Americans" will be purchased, offering the ninth-grade students enrolled in reading classes the opportunity to examine the successes and setbacks of men and women in the fields of government, entertainment, sports and civil rights. The students and I thank you for recognizing a need to expand the materials used in the reading program at Central Junior High School.
