To the editor:
On behalf of Southeast Missouri Modelers Association, I would like to extend a gracious thank you to the staff of the Southeast Missourian for the help and support offered to us for our model aircraft show at Cape Girardeau Regional Airport on May 22. The mention of the air show and the picture of Snoopy's doghouse in Gary Rust's column was greatly appreciated. We are also appreciative of staff writer Laura Johnston for her coverage of the event and the front-page publicity we received in the May 23 edition. Please pass along our thanks to her for her outstanding efforts. It was fun working with her.
This past air show was organized for several purposes. First of all was the invitation issued by Bruce Loy, airport manager, to hold such an event at the airport. This provided a wonderful venue for such an event, which in turn attracted some very good models and pilots. These guys cam from as far as five hours away to participate in this event. We also wanted to provide the opportunity for our community neighbors to come out and learn a little about model aviation.
It must be noted that this event would not have happened without the support of Bruce Loy, Dan Harris, Larry Davis and the rest of the gang at the airport. The firemen's group provided its expertise with the concession stand for which we were grateful. We even received some support from the Cape Girardeau Public Works Department through Doug Leslie. These guys were a wonderful bunch to work with.
