LETTERS: IT'S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE

After reading the "Another View" commentary by Steven R. Carroll on Aug. 2, I realized riverboat gambling is truly a good thing. I now understand the riverboat companies are only interested in funding our educational system. Our children are the direct beneficiaries of the voters' decision to allow riverboat gambling in Missouri.

I agree with Mr. Carroll that all limits on losses should be removed. Such action would certainly bring in more money to the state coffers, which in turn will benefit our children. I believe removing the limits in other areas of our live would also help our children.

We should begin by legalizing prostitution. With the state backing the industry and some innovative advertising campaigns, we could generate tens of millions of dollars in revenue annually. The money would, of course, be used to benefit our children.

Just imagine all that money flowing into our schools. We could raise teacher salaries, build new buildings, reduce class size and buy new books. All of our educational problems would be solved.

Our juniors and seniors would receive the added benefit of having an easy, fun way to earn big money for college tuition. Parents could spend those hard-earned college savings accounts on the riverboats. Everybody would benefit. There are no consequences. Our children would grow up knowing the ends always justify the means.
