The people of Jackson and the surrounding area owe Gwen Winningham a special thank you.

I am sure the majority of people who use the Jackson City Park where the swimming pool, lake and band shell are located are not aware it was once owned by Ms. Winningham. It was through her love of the outdoors and foresightedness that we now have this park instead of a corner with homes, apartments or commercial properties.

She has done more for the well-being, peace and enjoyment of mankind of all ages than she will ever realize. So the next time your are in the park walking, fishing, swimming, playing ball or just sitting there taking in all of the above, say a little prayer of thanks for our benefactor, Gwen Winningham.

She is also responsible for the donation of the ground where the Veterans Memorial is at Brookside Park. She is a special lady.

I don't want to fail to say thanks to the city park crew for all the hard work it does to keep the park as beautiful as it is.
