To the editor:
I read Sen. Peter Kinder's April 19 column and applauded. Then I read the whining complaint in the letter to the editor of the liberal from Tamms, Ill. He cries that our Republican majority creates policy that favors business while threatening consumers, environmentalists and labor. He asserts this is the part of suppression and fascism -- generalities without examples.
The letter writer says his opinions are based on watching C-SPAN. Really. I suggest that he broaden his search for information. I suggest that he read pertinent parts of the Wall Street Journal, the American Spectator, the Standard Weekly and the Reader's Digest. He may then wish to balance the conservative material with USA Today or the St. Louis paper or the Chicago Tribune. Then if he feels uninformed or confused, he might give Rush Limbaugh an opportunity to help him.
I am confident our majority in Congress is trying to get Big Government out of our lives. I believe they want to cut our taxes and reduce foolish spending. I know they want to help create an atmosphere that encourages business to grow and creates jobs. Who else but business creates jobs worth the name?
I believe our GOP majority intends to get the freeloading monkey of welfare off our hard-working backs.
I am so sorry that so many folks, including the letter writer, believe the Clinton-Gephardt lies. The lies are designed to put fear into the hearts of the old, the young and the naive.
My GOP majority proposed less growth, not cuts in all the major programs. But that isn't what the Democrats and the dominant liberal press told us. Lies.
The lies are intended to create a mood which will push the liberals back into power in November so they can continue with all they know: tax and spend.
It won't work. The liberals think we're stupid. They can guess again. We're going to put a man of honor in the White House, and we're going to give him what he needs to keep this country the absolute greatest ever.
