To the editor:

I have read much about the Missouri Department of Transportation's advisory committees over the past couple of years. It's the same old song: We just don't have the money to finish the Proposition A road work as promised.

I believe it is malfeasance, incompetence or out-and-out fraud from the entrenched bureaucrats or radical-left political leadership. No one has produced any reasonable justification for the cover-up and attempts to divert our outstate taxes to the unending grasp of the metro areas of our state.

My appeal: If they are not going to finish the Prop A 15-year plan, which we were promised if we passed the fuel-tax increase for it, then I want the six-cent fuel-tax increase eliminated -- and even a refund for the part not used to provide the road work as promised.

Legally, I believe the fuel-tax increase should not be used for anything other than the 15-year plan. I believe you could even bring a suit against the agencies and officials responsible for this boondoggle.
