To the editor:
I would like to comment about the doctors' surgery center that everyone is complaining about.
Cape Girardeau is really behind on medical services such as this. I have had surgery in hospitals in Memphis, Cape Girardeau and St. Louis, and never have I had the experience I just had in Amarillo, Texas. I just returned from there after my brother had serious surgery on his neck at a surgical center that a group of doctors built to offer their patients better service and lower cost.
The surgery center was beyond anything I could imagine. It was a beautiful and homelike atmosphere in every aspect. Each room was like being in a bedroom of your own home. Even the plug-ins were hidden behind little doors that were in a border, and one was opened as needed. The furniture was all homelike and beautiful. The doctors and nurses were the same. They all acted like members of the family and treated each of us as one of their family. The nurses served us coffee and juice in the room and sat and talked as if we were old friends at home. They had the time and the caring.
The clinic also had its own pain clinic, which is far more advanced than the one at St. Francis Medical Center here.
This surgery was done by the orthopedic surgeon who owns the surgery center. He used bone from my brother's leg mixed with sea coral to fill in between the vertebrae in his neck to relieve pressure on the spinal cord. He is fine, and we are all pleased and impressed with the surgery center.
Come on, people, and see how far behind Cape Girardeau is. Look at this as a positive thing. The doctors here have my vote.
