To stymie the media's handling of national elections and the reporting of semi-factual numbers, there is no reason the whole United States can't vote at the same time. The continental United States has only four time zones. Why not vote as follows:

Eastern time zone, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Central time zone, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Mountain time zone, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Pacific time zone, 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This would not permit the press to announce a winner before California even started voting. I know the media would hate this approach.

Oh, yes. Hawaii can vote any time it prefers.
