To the editor:

I am sure American veterans would turn over in their graves to think they fought for and died in defense of the U.S. Constitution, which is now in jeopardy. The Constitution guarantees the right to vote, and now we find that some of our states and our elected officials have denied that right.

This has escalated into a debacle. Thousands of votes were cast aside in Florida alone. Now it seems the only resolution is in the courts. Again, it is the constitutional right that the veterans fought for. The protection of the Constitution is vital. If this is not done, we are no better off than any other nation in the world.

The question is, do we want to be a nation of constitutional law? The Constitution was written by wise men, even though I do not like some of it such as the Electoral College. But it remains the best document every written by man to govern by, and I stand by it wholeheartedly.

Stand by your Constitution, and it will stand by you as it always has. We will have opposing views as to what is right and wrong. That is where our courts come in. Thousands of Americans have been denied the right to vote through no error of their own, and it should be rectified. I am sure it will be.
