Over the past several years, college students have been in the news for a variety of negative things. It seems that organizations on college campuses across the country have taken a beating for incidences involving a few unruly youths. We by no means want to discount the seriousness of those offenses, but we think that praise should be given where praise is due.

On May 2, Lutheran Family and Children's Services of Southeast Missouri had the pleasure of meeting 10 of Southeast Missouri State University's finest. These 10 students, led by Jason Lane, were part of the 1998 Plunge efforts. The students were eager to work when they arrived. They listened to and followed directions. They asked questions when appropriate. They were polite and courteous. In a short time, LCFS-SEMO had five new parking places for staff, fresh stripes in our client parking area and clean flower beds. In addition, these volunteers addressed, stamped, sealed and sorted several hundred envelopes for a fund raiser.

The staff and clients of Lutheran Family and Children's Services want to thank all of the Plunge volunteers, the United Way and the university for the work that was done on May 2. We appreciate the difference you made in our office and in our community.
