To the editor:
U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson is to be commended for her support of permanent normal trade relations for China. Farmers and ranchers across the state are very pleased the House of Representatives voted for this. With the abysmal state of the farm economy, it is imperative our agricultural producers have access to this tremendous market.
There are those who have expressed legitimate concerns about the Chinese government's commitment to free and fair world trade. However, this vote was not an affirmation of China's policies, but recognition that closing our borders will only increase the isolation of the Chinese people.
Congresswoman Emerson is a steadfast supporter of policies to enhance not only agriculture, but also rural America. Her voter on this issue is but the latest example of a sincere desire to restore prosperity to Main Street.
