To the editor:

The voters of Cape Girardeau County should be aware of legislation that would strip away their rights and set environmental justice back 50 years. This is being quietly ramroded through the legislative process at our own state Capitol (House Bill 945, Senate Bill 561 and Senate Bill 529) as well as many other capitols across this nation. A consortium of large corporations is bent on forcing legislation through all states by using its financial clout to weed its way through the lawmaking process. You won't hear too much said on these types of bills, as this is not intended to be for the voters who put legislators in office. It is only for corporate greed and gain.

"Environmental audit privilege" is the buzzword used to convince naive legislators that these laws are good for America. They are only good for polluting corporations who want no responsibility for their actions. Your children's children will be paying for the corporate sins that will be allowed under the cloak of secrecy lurking behind the audit privilege.

Please take some time and inquire about the details of several bills being hushed through the lawmaking process. Contact your senator and representative and express your concerns. HB945 is sponsored by Rep. Jess Garnett, SB561 by Sen. Wayne Goode, and SB529 by Sen. Peter Kinder.
