To the Editor:
Having just concluded reading the article about the "No" group in the Oct. 8 Southeast Missourian, correction is once again necessary. With opponents so carelessly, if not intentionally, misstating the facts, we must continue to set the record straight.
The article quoted Rev. Charles Grant as saying, "If gambling is such a promising economic opportunity, why haven't we seen any local investors stepping up and putting their money down?" To this I would tell Rev. Grant that the funds used to finance this campaign are entirely from local investors. These investors, each giving freely, are to be praised. They have invested their time and money in something that would be extremely beneficial to the city of Cape Girardeau, but of little benefit to most of them personally.
In the article I noticed the motto "We Love Cape " as the "No" groups motto. This I find lacking credibility, as one who loves their community does not attempt to hinder economic growth, eliminate much needed tax revenues, and discard 800 new jobs. On the other hand, one who states "We Love Cape" would promote their community, encourage economic growth, and work to create new jobs as the Yes Group is now doing. Who would you say this motto would better fit?
Please don't let the naysayers cloud the issue. The facts are plain, simple, and straight forward. Riverboat gaming will be an extremely beneficial business addition to the city of Cape Girardeau. Remember, we too love Cape, and remember to vote yes Nov. 2.
