LETTER TO THE EDITOR: THERE IS NOTHING VILE IN LETTING VOTERS DECIDE HOW TO SPEND THEIR TAXES

To the editor:

I noticed that Sen. Danny Staples likened the Hancock II proposal to the Natural Streams Act and said that both were the most vile form of political trickery. While the Natural Streams Act is most deserving of that title, I see nothing vile in giving the voters of Missouri the choice of how and when our tax monies are to be spent. We should not allow political tricksters to confuse the issues. The real issue is why the predominantly Democratic legislature and Mel Carnahan are afraid of the vote of the people on these issues. It is evident that they think you and I are too stupid to decide these matters.

Now is the time for us to take back control of our government and decide the issues for ourselves rather than listen to the rantings of those accustomed to feeding at the public trough and voting themselves new pay raises every few years to stay ahead of the new taxes they impose on the rest of us. Hancock II would not allow them such luxuries any longer.

Sen. Staples is afraid that wealthy corporations and citizens would benefit from a tax rollback created by Hancock II. Everybody from the federal level all the way down to state and local government is screaming for more jobs on the job market. For someone to offer a job to another, that someone has to be successful in making money or, in other words, wealthy. I have never seen anyone on welfare offer gainful and lasting employment to another human-being. Let's not be hasty in deciding who the real tricksters are in this issue. Down with political tyranny! Up with Hancock II!
