To the editor:
As a member of the citizens against the lake, I would remind you we are still here. We opposed the idea 10 years ago, and we still do.
We questioned the Cape Girardeau County Commission spending $50,000 on a feasibility study to a yes group. It should be noted none of our current commissioners was in office at that time.
We questioned the validity of the study that said dams would hold and not endanger downstream property and lives.
I would strongly urge you to read Senate Bill 363, which would give the lake authority massive dictatorial powers.
As I think of this new proposal I am reminded it was not financially reasonable back then and most assuredly is not today with the increased property values we have witnessed in this area.
As I think of what this proposal would mean to my family, friends and community I am hardened by the thought of a tax our unborn grandchildren would have to bear.
