KRCU NEARS 10TH ANNIVERSARY AS NPR AFFILIATE

In the past 10 years, KRCU-90.9 FM has come a long way.

Although it started in 1976 as a campus radio station for Southeast Missouri State University, KRCU as we now know it was born Nov. 15, 1990. That was the day the station began broadcasting National Public Radio programming.

As the station approaches its 10th anniversary as an NPR affiliate, KRCU staff both past and current have much for which they can be proud. Offering unique and informative programming such as "All Things Considered," "Market Place" and "Morning Edition," KRCU provides in-depth news coverage unavailable anywhere else on the local radio dial. Locally produced music shows also provide listeners with alternatives to standard commercial radio fare.

The station plans to kick off a weeklong on-air fund drive Oct. 7. However, if the station reaches its goal of $27,500 before then, the drive will be canceled, leaving KRCU's airwaves free for regular programming.

Although a sizable portion of the station's budget comes from the university, it still relies on listener donations to continue and improve programming and to help boost the station's signal.

KRCU is truly a community asset and has earned the public's support.
