Junior high musical should be spectacular

Cape Girardeau Junior High School students will put on a musical, "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The show promises to be yet another junior high, Mike Dumey-produced gem. This particular show has a cast of 149 members.

Dumey has been involved with high-end musicals for 23 years.

They "were much more simplistic when we started out 23 years ago," Dumey told Southeast Missourian reporter Tyler Graef. "These are not watered-down versions of shows you've seen elsewhere. This is what you'd get to see at the Fox or an opera in terms of material."

Dumey said the music pushed the talents of the young cast, who put in many, many hours of practice.

"We aspire for the kids to be, within our limits, as professional as we can," Dumey said. "And every year, I see it happen. They pull it off."

Jeffrey Bittle will play Pharaoh, a traditionally Elvis-inspired role.

Tickets may be purchased at the Central Junior High auditorium.
