Kudos to Mike Dumey and everyone who performed or helped with the "Annie" benefit concert on Jan. 18.

It is so reassuring to see so many young people willing to give of their time and talents for those who are coming behind them, the eighth- and ninth-graders, so that they may have the chance to perform a real musical. It is gratifying to me as a resident of Cape Girardeau to see so many actively participating in an event that is not a requirement for graduation or financially rewarding.

If there are doubts about the state of education in our town, just see what these talented young people can do. I can remember when I was the age of these students. What we did paled in comparison to their performance and overall stage presence. There was also a great deal of support from the Central Junior High School staff, parents and many others who contributed to the great success.

Thank you all and, of course, Mr. Dumey. This is world-class entertainment. I might be a little prejudiced because my two grandsons were part of it.
