Every town should have a person of the intelligence, imagination, guts, persistence and architectural talents of John Boardman. Few do. Boardman was a principled man marked by a truly admirable streak of flinty independence.
For 40 years, John Boardman practiced his profession of architecture among us. He designed countless private homes, public buildings and private businesses. To every project he brought not only his talents, but a special vision.
The last 15 or so years of his life were characterized by a strong devotion to Cape Girardeau's downtown These last few years, he and his wife Evelyn lived there. The accolades that came his way this week from other downtown business leaders were well-earned. Many have remarked on his tendency to look always to the future with its unending challenges.
We can all learn from the life of this talented and visionary builder. We can all draw inspiration from John Boardman's example. Let us salute that life and that example, and continue to profit by it.
