I want to commend the Jackson School District. At the Jackson High School graduation, the district showed a lot of class. Along with the announcing scholarships awarded to students, school officials honored the young men and women who had committed to joining the armed forces. Those individuals received the greatest ovation that night. Like those who are going to college, they made a major commitment. Unlike those staying in the civilian world, they are putting their lives on the line for this country. Agree or disagree with the war in Iraq, these women and men deserved our applause. Someone was definitely heads up in Jackson to recognize that.

I have a brother in Iraq. My son would be there if he had joined the service. Two of his friends from high school and football, Luke Wade and Curtis Ackman, are there with my brother. We should all be in awe of our friends and relatives serving in Iraq and putting their lives on hold for this country -- and of all the young folk joining the service. I am.
