The Jackson Post 158 Junior Legion baseball team won the regional title this month in Kansas in a double-elimination tournament. The team, having previously not lost a game, fell to South Dakota in Game 1 of the championship round but came back to win the second contest to claim the title.

The road to winning the regional title included stops at the district and state levels, where Jackson was victorious. Post 158 finished with an amazing record of 39-8.

The Charleston Fighting Squirrels advanced to the Senior Babe Ruth World Series in Ephrata, Washington. Though they lost all four games in the tournament, it was impressive to make it this far in the schedule. The team finished the 2014 summer with a record of 40-20-1.

Congratulations to both of these teams on strong seasons. Summer baseball can be much fun for the athletes, coaches, parents and fans. It's also a time of making memories. We believe the players of Jackson and Charleston, along with other local summer teams, made many good ones this summer.

More memories are sure to come next year when the boys and girls of summer hit the field.
