To the editor:To those whose loved ones are buried at Lightner's Cemetery: I don't know if everyone is aware or seen that Lightner's Cemetery has been cleaned up. That's sound great, except cleanup included throwing away your American flags, your shepherd hooks, your angel statues, your Virgin Mary statues, crosses and many more items. Throwing away your belongings is bad enough, but to throw away spiritual and holy things is sacrilegious. Discarding the American flag in the trash is unacceptable and un-American.
Some of the items that was thrown into the trash can be retrieved. Others cannot. Most items where thrown away with no regard for the feelings of those who were honored.
I know mowing the cemetery can be a difficult job, but if the person in charge of maintaining this finds it to be too hard to maintain due to all the items, that person needs to step down.
I would like to be able to honor those whom I lost with the American flag and keepsakes. I feel as long as the items I place on the graves are not in the way of the mower, they should be left alone.
