Veterans of our nation's military conflicts are remembered today, Veterans Day. The powerful images evoked by those who served in World War II, in the Korean War and in Desert Storm (see column above) give pause to the post-election, pre-holiday hustle and bustle.
Today is the day for remembering, with gratitude, the price that has been paid for freedom and liberty.
As you pass by the flying flags today, take a moment to reflect on the precious rights you enjoy. The waving symbol of our country is the same flag that has led armies into battle, covered the coffins of those who died and cheered those who savor the triumph of democracy.
Today is the day for remembering the sacrifice of those who gave themselves for others.
