The most recent production by Central High School's Red Dagger club is "Arsenic and Old Lace" by Joseph Kesselring. It is the story of two charming, innocent old women that spend their time not knitting but helping old lonely men along their way to the afterlife, whether the men want to or not. Not only are the old ladies quite the characters, the brothers of the family are all unique themselves. One brother thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt, and another is a well-known drama critic in New York. This combination of characters creates a hilarious course of events that could only be seen in "Arsenic and Old Lace."
"Arsenic and Old Lace" was first performed in 1941 and has been ever since. My father, Mark Dunn, performed this play when he was in high school, showing that it has been running on stage for a long time. Central's Red Dagger Club will be performing "Arsenic and Old Lace" on Nov. 17, 18 and 19 in the Central Junior High School auditorium. Tickets will be $8 for adults and $6 dollars for students. The performance begins at 7 each night.
Red Dagger was organized in 1918 and is the oldest club at Central High School with a long-standing history of high quality performances. We will honor all former members of Red Dagger and have them stand up after the performance on Friday night. We'd love to see you there.
