For 90 years, the Jackson Homecomers has been a celebration of community, of strong family ties and of civic pride. Most everyone who participates in the five days of activities is related to someone -- or a lot of someones -- in Jackson or who were onetime Jackson residents.
To say that this is a large-scale reunion is correct, but it is much more. It is a fair and a showcase for talent and beauty. It is a time to see old friends and make new ones.
Homecomers is, in short, a celebration of a way of life that many of us fear is too rapidly disappearing from the American scene. Thanks to strong traditions and a lot of hard work by hundreds of volunteers, however, Jackson is keeping Homecomers as strong as ever.
