HIGHWAY USERS CAN HAVE IMPORTANT INPUT

The Missouri Department of Transportation is looking to improve three Cape Girardeau County highways, and the public is invited to get involved at an information meeting this week. The state wants people to comment about traffic and dangers on Routes 25, 34 and 72.

Two separate forums are planned Thursday: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and again from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Show Me Center.

The department's recent improvement study will be available. The study looks at ways to alleviate traffic congestion and improve safety. The continued growth of Jackson has significantly impacted travel on these roadways.

Highway 25, which starts at Jackson, extends to Kennett in the Bootheel. But the hearing this week will focus on the traffic patterns from Jackson through Gordonville, Dutchtown and Delta -- to the Stoddard County line. Highways 72 and 34 sectors that will be highlighted include those from west of Jackson to the Madison and Bollinger county lines.

It is important that people who travel these roadways tell the state of their concerns, and review the state's plans. This kind of input is essential at the early stages of such a project.
