Habitat for Humanity's fine work evident

Congratulations to the two new homeowners who launched the Carter Estates subdivision at West End Boulevard and College Street in Cape Girardeau.

It should become a very special neighborhood with exceptional residents.

After all, how many homeowners have "sweat equity" in where they live? It's the term Habitat for Humanity uses for the required investment their beneficiaries must have in their future homes. As often as possible, the future homeowners are on the construction site, tools in hand.

Carter Estates is going to be a subdivision of Habitat for Humanity homes. Last week, the group dedicated the homes of LaTanya Thomas and Sharon Tisdale, the subdivision's first two residents. They have the 12th and 13th houses built by the local chapter.

The program is Christian-based and nonprofit and helps build thousands of homes in the United States and 60 other countries every year.

Certainly, the local members are deserving of our support as we watch very public evidence of their fine works.
