Few people have shown more dedication to Southeast Missouri State University's athletic department than Greg Brune. And at the end of this month, Brune will begin the next stage in his life when he retires.

Brune, who has been connected to the university for more than 45 years, has served as the director of athletic development since 1993 -- a position he refers to as his "dream job."

The Brune family has a long and distinguished history with the university. Greg's father, Charlie Brune, who passed away last summer, played football for Southeast in 1940 and 1941. He later helped establish the booster club, which he remained involved with nearly the rest of his life. Greg was a record-setting quarterback and punter for Southeast and played baseball for the university as well. His brother Lance was a quarterback for the university, and all three of Greg's sons played football at Southeast.

In addition to all his athletic achievements, fundraising successes and overall leadership in the athletic department, Brune, a Vietnam War veteran, has received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

While Southeast will surely miss this dedicated individual in his official capacity with the athletic department, Brune has pledged to stay involved with the university during his retirement.

Congratulations, Greg, on your upcoming retirement. And thank you for your service to Southeast Missouri State University.
