Golfers and fun-seekers, get ready. Tee time is 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The location: Downtown Cape Girardeau.
The First-Ever Ninth Annual Louis J. Lorimier Memorial World-Famous Downtown Golf Tournament will be held this weekend in Cape Girardeau's downtown to raise money for the Red House Interpretive Center.
The tournament is an opportunity for golf enthusiasts and those with no golfing background to hit BirdieBalls, have some fun and socialize, and then enjoy the all-you-can-eat catfish buffet at Port Cape Girardeau.
A story in Sunday's Southeast Missourian by reporter Samantha Rinehart previewed the event. Cape Girardeau County commissioner Charlie Herbst is one of the organizers, and said they keep the fee at $25 to provide more people the opportunity to participate while still serving as a fundraiser for the Red House.
"It's one of the rare opportunities to really see downtown up close. A lot of times you're just driving through," Herbst said in a Sunday story.
To register for the tournament, visit cityofcapegirardeau.org/Parks/Red-House-Interpretive-Center.aspx or stop by the Osage Centre or the Arena Building in Cape Girardeau. Check-in begins at 1 p.m. Sunday.
