The Cure for Cape Cancer Gala held Aug. 24 was a big success. If you made it out to Plaza by Ray's for the 26th annual formal affair, you were treated to wonderful food, music and overall fun.
Kelli Schenimann, community manager of development for the American Cancer Society Eastern Missouri Region, said Thursday about $157,000 was raised from the gala, although money still is coming in. Donations made through the end of the year will be allocated to the gala's fundraising total.
One of the most inspirational moments of the night was the recognition of Nolan Weber, the Ambassador of Hope. Weber's mother, Rachelle Weber, read an essay written by her son about his struggles. A Jackson High School graduate, Nolan Weber has faced numerous health challenges, but his desire to live an abundant life and press forward with a positive attitude is inspiring.
Co-chairwomen Victoria Moon and Bunny Kohlfeld, other committee members and volunteers are to be commended. This is a major undertaking and only happens because of people who care about the cause and are willing to spend time to help. Thank you to presenting sponsor Saint Francis Medical Center and other top sponsors SoutheastHEALTH, Advanced Dermatology, Cape Radiology Group, MidAmerica Hotels Corp. and the Southeast Missourian, as well as the many others who donated to the cause.
