A new congregation in Fruitland, Mo., soon will have a church building in which to worship thanks to a group of 120 volunteers who came to town to get the building started and others who will arrive periodically to finish it up.

The Fruitland Community Church off U.S. 61 just north of the Highway 177 intersection is well on its way toward completion after the group of volunteers took vacation time to come to Fruitland to work on the 13,000-square-foot building.

Eight teams from around the country will come later to complete the work, although none will be as large as the 120-member group of mostly Southern Baptists.

The church is only 22 months old. Lynwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau formed the church and gave the land. The new church is responsible for construction supplies, other building costs and furnishing the church.

The volunteer labor represents huge savings. It shows what can be accomplished when people come together to help their neighbors, no matter how far away those neighbors may live.
