It's springtime and that means time to spruce up flower beds and gardens and work on house projects. It also means there is an opportunity to help beautify the city of Cape Girardeau.
The 29th annual Friends of the Parks Day will be held Saturday. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at Capaha Park. The works begins at 9 a.m.
One of the city's assets is its beautiful parks and outdoor recreational facilities. We encourage you to take some time to enjoy Capaha Park. You will see people walk around the lagoon, playing Frisbee golf, watching a baseball game at Capaha Field. Arena Park offers opportunities to watch youth sports and enjoy a picnic at one of the shelters. And there are other great parks in the area.
Saturday is an opportunity to help keep Cape looking nice. There are people and organizations who do this on a regular basis by picking up litter and maintaining the curb appeal of their storefronts. We applaud these individuals.
You can learn more about the Great Cape Clean Up and Friends of the Park Day in a story that appears in today's newspaper.
Also, city residents may also schedule a free "special trash" pickup one time per year. Call 339-6322.
We encourage you to participate in this weekend's cleanup and to consider other opportunities to support beautification in the community.
