The 140th edition of the SEMO District Fair ends tonight. It has been a great week so far, with milder temperatures and only a brief thunderstorm early Wednesday evening to mark the annual fair-week rain. Organizers should be well-pleased by the week's progress.

Sunday's mild weather prompted one of the best opening days in recent memory: About 18,000 fair-goers jammed Arena Park on Sunday. Attendance has kept pace the remainder of the week, with officials hoping to easily surpass last year's attendance of just over 80,000.

A trip to the fair is certainly worth the price of admission. If you haven't been out to the fair grounds yet this week, make the time today. The final day of the fair is chock full of food, fun and family entertainment well worth battling the crowds.

At 10 this morning, prize-winning livestock will strut their stuff during the Parade of Champions. In the R&R tent, smile contestants will compete along with old time fiddlers this afternoon. Youngsters will pull weights with pedal tractors at 4 p.m. And at 8 tonight, Ricky Van Shelton will take the main stage. The 140th edition of the SEMO District Fair lives up to its first-rate reputation.
