To the editor:As a person who grew up in Graysboro right by the proposed ethanol plant, I'm afraid it will change the sweet memories of my birthplace and where I grew up.
My father bough our homeplace in the early 1920s. His children and grandchildren own a sizable amount of it today. We grew up watching the riverboats and listening to the trains crossing the bridge to Thebes, Ill. It reminds me of the era of the Waltons on the TV show.
I have several relatives living in that area. I fear this proposed ethanol plant is going to ruin the area for future generations. My brother, who has lived there for 65 years or so, suffers from a degenerative lung disease. I worry about how this will affect his breathing. My grandson has health problems also, and even though he lives in Cape Girardeau, he loves going down there to fish and for four-wheeling. Will he continue to do so?
I know they say you can't stop prosperity, but can't the ethanol plants locate elsewhere? There are lots of people who remember our school days there in a little, white country school in an ere that was so different than what we see today. Make a trip there and then decide.
