Emerson and lobbyist funding

This week, congresswoman Emerson was scheduled to hold a barbecue fundraiser at a location registered to a lobbying firm in Washington, D.C. The minimum contribution to have barbecue with Congresswoman Emerson: $1,000. Imagine that: an incumbent serving pork to lobbyists.

Forty-five percent of Emerson's campaign funds come from special interest PACs. These groups don't give money away for fun -- they expect their interests to be represented. And that is exactly what Emerson has done for 14 years -- represent D.C. special interests over the interests of our small towns. Look no further than Emerson's vote for the Wall Street bailout, where banks "too big to fail" were rewarded for destroying our economy. Emerson has continually voted for foreign trade deals like CAFTA even though they've shipped jobs overseas and caused our factories to vanish overnight. Whose interests are being served here? Certainly not ours.
