To the editor: I want to clarify a comment in the article "A meal to remember." It stated, "But the requirements for who can partake in communion vary among denominations. Many Protestant churches offer 'open communion,' meaning that any Christian can participate in the service. Only members of the Lutheran and Catholic churches can participate in communion."...

To the editor:

I want to clarify a comment in the article "A meal to remember." It stated, "But the requirements for who can partake in communion vary among denominations. Many Protestant churches offer 'open communion,' meaning that any Christian can participate in the service. Only members of the Lutheran and Catholic churches can participate in communion."

As part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, our policy is to offer open communion to all believers, with no restrictions on the Christian church to which one belongs from baptism as a child of God.
