Our communities never cease to inspire us in the ways they find to give of themselves.

One of the many recent examples is the myTEAM TRIUMPH one-mile "fun run" event held on New Year's Day.

As reported by Emily Priddy, the participants of myTEAM TRIUMPH combine able-bodied individuals helping those with disabilities run races. The individuals with disabilities -- called "captains" in myTEAM TRIUMPH parlance -- ride in three-wheeled racing chairs pushed by two to three "angels." The race drew 185 participants, more than double the number who signed up last year.

According to Priddy's reporting, by the end of last year, the running group had 65 angels and 14 captains. The group now has five chairs. MyTEAM TRIUMPH members participated in 25 races last year, including two triathlons, a half-marathon and 22 shorter runs.

The captains love the races. They enjoy experiencing being in a race and the social aspects involved. And the angels love the experience of helping others who can't do what they can.

What a wonderful spirit of giving and fellowship. Thanks to all involved for helping the captains reach the finish line, and for inspiring the rest of us.
