To the editor:
I hear a lot of bashing regarding the police officers of Cape Girardeau. Don't let one bad experience bring judgment on an entire force. I remember a K-9 unit officer who helped me out of a potentially dangerous situation on an icy stretch of I-55 last year. This officer went far above and beyond the call of duty, making sure I made it safely home to Scott City. I remember, as a Naval Re-servist, working alongside several of these good officers while pulling duty at the Cape airport after Sept. 11. These officers were working in rotating shifts, pulling long hours at the airport and on their beats without a single gripe from any I had the pleasure of working with. I remember seeing the balance between personal and duty life that my police officer family members hold.
