Don't be afraid to show feelings of patriotism

I wish to rebut Donn S. Miller's Oct. 14 letter in which he was rebutting a column by David Limbaugh that talked about people finding our flag repugnant. Apparently, Miller proves Limbaugh's point. He considers our grand old flag repugnant. He seems to be offended by the display of patriotism awakened since the terrorist massacres.

I am very proud to "festoon my pseudo-patriotic trash" on my home, car and apparel. Yes, patriotism should be something we live, but I am not the least bit ashamed to show it. I will continue to do so as long as there is life in my red, white and blue body. And it makes me very proud to see my fellow Americans proudly displaying their patriotism.

To me, our flag represents life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion. Whenever I see the flag, I can only imagine how Francis Scott Key must have felt when held captive by the British. Looking outside in the wee hours of the morning between the flashes of cannon and gunfire, he could see that wonderful old star-spangled banner in the distance proudly flapping in the wind. Just like the new nation, it was battle-worn, torn, scarred and burned but proudly still waving.

If I purchase a $2 flag and attach it to my car, I proclaim to the world I am proud to be an American. I strongly urge my fellow Americans to not only live their patriotism, but show it. And don't be ashamed.
