Children can learn and have fun at the same time. That is the goal of the Discovery Playhouse, which is renovating a former furniture store at 502 Broadway in Cape Girardeau for the children's museum and hands-on activity center.
The museum's board hopes the facility can open by early spring next year, but that depends largely on the generosity of donors who already have given $140,000 to the project.
The Missouri Department of Economic Development is offering up to $250,000 of 50 percent tax credits for businesses contributing to the project. The playhouse's goal is to raise another $360,000.
This is an ambitious project for downtown Cape Girardeau. Now would be a good time to show support by making a generous donation.
