County plan is not double taxation

To the editor:

The property taxes are assessed in January for the calendar year. They are due and to be paid by Dec. 31 for that year. The taxes for 2007 for county roads will be collected as a sales tax, and there will not be a real-estate tax collected for county roads in 2007. The real estate taxes for 2006 are due by Dec. 31, 2006. They include taxes for county roads. That is not double taxation. I think you should report this on the front page as you have done before. At least you know your paper is being read.
