Notre Dame Regional High School recognized five of the school's top former athletes last month at its Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
The new inductees include Lloyd Williams (1963-1967), Mary Jane (Glueck) Schwieger (1976-1980), Steve Schott (1979-1983), Scott Wittenborn (1998-2002) and Ali (Tyson) Taufoou (1999-2003).
* Lloyd Williams was a member of the basketball, baseball and track teams at the school. A record-setter in track, he was awarded the Outstanding Athlete Award as a senior and continued his track career at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, where we continued to set records in indoor and outdoor track events.
* Mary Jane (Glueck) Schwieger was a three-sport athlete, participating in volleyball, basketball and softball. In volleyball she was recognized twice as team MVP. As a senior she received the Lady Bulldog Award.
* Steve Schott was successful in baseball and basketball at Notre Dame. In baseball he was the hitting team-leader for three years and also pitched for the Bulldogs, not losing as a pitcher for three seasons. A Notre Dame Bulldog Award recipient, Schott was inducted into the International Softball Congress World Hall of Fame and is an inductee of the Missouri Softball Hall of Fame.
* Scott Wittenborn, in 2002, was on the school's baseball final four team. He played soccer, baseball and basketball in his tenure. After high school he played soccer and basketball at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He played soccer for one year at Bradley University.
* Ali (Tyson) Taufoou made it to state tournaments for soccer, basketball, volleyball and swimming. She was on the 2003 basketball season, a squad that won the Class 2 state championship. Taufoou also was on the 2002 state championship soccer team. She holds the school record for the 100 breakstroke.
We congratulate these five individuals.
