It's good to recognize those who go above and beyond to make a difference. Last week the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Educator Appreciation Reception at the Show Me Center. The reception was sponsored by Wood & Huston Bank.

  • Gretchen Bunch, first-grade teacher at Blanchard Elementary School;
  • Lenny Kuper, math teacher at Notre Dame Regional High School;
  • Cathy Matthews, instructor for the Adult Education and Literacy Program;
  • Josh Tomlin, Central Academy; and
  • Tom Holman, professor of recreation at Southeast Missouri State University.

The educators received the Crystal Apple Award, a $500 check, General Assembly resolutions and a video of the program.

The Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce holds its education reception in the fall, and the Jackson Chamber holds its event in the spring. Each of these is an opportunity to recognize educators for their work.

We extend our congratulations to each of the recipients and thank all those who go the extra mile and help today's students experience the love of learning.
