To the editor: In the April 6 Sunday comics, "Slylock Fox" was very inappropriate. It depicts Slylock Fox strapped down in a chair with a device strapped to his head. My 4-year-old came to me with pain and fear in his eyes, pointing to the comic and asking, "Why are they hurting him?" It took me a few minutes to reassure him that Slylock Fox was not really being hurt...

In the April 6 Sunday comics, "Slylock Fox" was very inappropriate. It depicts Slylock Fox strapped down in a chair with a device strapped to his head. My 4-year-old came to me with pain and fear in his eyes, pointing to the comic and asking, "Why are they hurting him?" It took me a few minutes to reassure him that Slylock Fox was not really being hurt.

I thought it was the purpose of comics to entertain and perhaps educate. With all the war pictures on TV and in the paper, a child should be able to look at the comics and not feel fear.

Since when has it been appropriate to scare children? Since when has it been morally right for comics to instill fear and show scenes of torture? It is not.
