Cape Girardeau recently welcomed hundreds of classic car enthusiasts who attended the annual River Tales Classic Car Show. The show is sponsored by the River City Rodders and Old Town Cape.

Two hundred classic cars were judged in 31 classes at this year's show. Trophies were given for best in show as well as first, second and third place.

Another Cape Girardeau classic car show, Cars for Kids, is held annually in August at Arena Park. Jackson also hosts a car show on July 4 each year that is sponsored by the Capaha Antique Car Club. Classic car shows take place every weekend in the area from April through the end of October.

Southeast Missouri is also home to one of the premier auto restorers in the United States. Roger Gibson Auto Restoration has restored several cars for celebrities.

The Show Me Center hosts two auto auctions each year through Sherm Smith Auto Auctions. Show Me Center Director David Ross said the auctions typically draw 800 to 1000 individuals with many coming from around the country.

Classic car events are fun and have a positive economic impact on Southeast Missouri. Thank you to all those who dedicate their time to these events.
