Few Cape Girardeans have made a greater impact in a shorter time than Maurice "Moe" Sandfort. He moved to the city in 1983 and immediately weaved his way into the fabric of this community. He has been a civic leader in the true sense of that phrase and his recently announced departure for another community is a loss for Cape Girardeau.

His resume of local involvement is an impressive one. He has been chairman of the St. Francis Medical Center Board of Directors, president of the Rotary Club of Cape Girardeau, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, corporate chairman of the United Way and chairman of the Southeast Missouri State University Copper Dome Society. He has also been active in the Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts and the Southeast Missouri Boy Scout Council.

The vagaries and demands of corporate life have prompted Sandfort's move to West Plains. He has taken a job as president of Boatmen's National Bank of West Plains, leaving his job as executive vice president of the Boatmen's Bank here. His transition from his many local activities into this new job will take place throughout the next month or so.

We are losing a good man who touched this community in a positive way. We wish him and his family well with his new opportunity.
