To the editor:
Cape Girardeau wants to repair roads. That's fine, but we don't need costly roundabouts or cobblestone streets.
The city is wasting money with trolleys and signs for visitors. Would residents use trolleys? We have many people who would benefit better from a citywide bus system.
The city doesn't have enough money for vital services like police, firefighters or better equipment for employees. So how can it give millions to the university for the River Campus?
The university is another wasteful institution in Cape Girardeau. The university claims it's having money troubles and that it has had to drop courses and majors and can't make necessary repairs and upgrades. So how can it waste millions on fountains and mascot name changes.
Now the university wants to erect waterfall signs to welcome people. How many students have there been since the university began? They all seemed to find it OK. I don't know of any student who left because he wasn't welcomed by huge waterfall signs.
Stop these wasteful spending habits and put all of these millions of dollars to good use.
