To the editor:
Each year the members of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce and the local business community demonstrate their commitment to the community by assisting with new student move-in day and the Southeast welcome back picnic. This year was no different. The chamber, along with more than 70 local businesses, helped the university as we opened our doors to new and returning students. Whether it was helping with setup and welcoming new students on move-in day at 6 a.m. in the Student Recreation Center, or helping welcome our new and returning students at the welcome back picnic, local businesses demonstrated what is so very special about our community.
A special note of thanks must be mentioned for the continual support the chamber has shown by welcoming our students to Cape Girardeau community. Whether serving food at the picnic, assisting in the recruitment of vendors for different events or providing resources for students, the chamber continues to play a key role. These efforts of the chamber and the many local businesses that participated is sincerely appreciated and assisted students in getting started on what promises to be a great academic year.
