On Oct. 16 my husband and I were privileged to attend the Central High School Honor Tour send-off for World War II veterans who were going to Washington, D.C., to visit the World War II Memorial.

We thank Julia Jorgensen for our special invitation to this event, which she coordinated.

We were escorted into the gymnasium through a corridor of American flags, all held by students. A bagpiper and honor guard preceded the veterans and family members. After the program the entire Marching Tiger drum line preceded the group as it left to board the bus.

I commend the staff and students at Central High School for their active participation in honoring the veterans. During the entire morning the students were respectful and attentive.

Special appreciation goes to all who help organize these tours, especially Rob Callahan from Poplar Bluff.
