A Cape Girardeau business professor was recognized with an eye-catching honor Saturday night.

Dr. Erin R. Fluegge-Woolf, a Southeast Missouri State University faculty member, was crowned Mrs. Missouri at the state contest held in Kansas City, Mo.

Fluegge-Woolf is the latest in an impressive history of local women who have won the competition. A story in Sunday's Southeast Missourian said that more than a dozen women from the Southeast Missouri region have won the title.

Having gone through the process to become Mrs. Cape Girardeau, Fluegge-Woolf's platform centered on the VintageNOW Fashion Show. The annual event raises money for the Safe House for Women in Cape Girardeau.

As the state ambassador from the Mrs. Missouri contest, she'll have an opportunity to move forward with the Mrs. America Pageant and promote additional platforms. One mentioned in the story was music education.

In addition to the professor's work with the fashion show, she began a charitable organization that combines business and fashion.

She also has participated in Leadership Cape Girardeau and Leadership Missouri.

Part of her reasoning for participating in Mrs. Missouri was to try something new, which is a goal she encourages her students to consider.

Congratulations to Fluegge-Woolf on winning the Mrs. Missouri contest. We wish her the best as she moves forward with the Mrs. America competition.
